Quick Start
This walkthrough takes you from a fresh account to a live automation in about ten minutes. Each step links to a deeper guide if you want more detail.
1. Create your account
Open the app and either continue with Google, continue with Facebook, or register with an email and password. Email sign-ups get a confirmation link — click it, then sign in. On your first login a personal workspace is created for you automatically, on the free plan.
See Signing In.
2. Connect your Instagram account
From the dashboard, click Connect Instagram. You'll be sent to Instagram's own consent screen, where you approve access to your messages and comments. When you come back, the account appears in the sidebar switcher and on Settings → Instagram accounts.
Business or Creator only
InfluDM uses Instagram's messaging APIs, which are only available to Business and Creator accounts. If your account is Personal, switch it in the Instagram app (Settings → Account type and tools) before connecting.
See Instagram Accounts.
3. Create a flow
Go to Flows → Create flow. The builder is one page, top to bottom.
Pick a trigger. The four options are:
- User comments on your post or reel
- User DMs to you
- User comments on your LIVE
- User replies to your stories
Choose User comments on your post or reel for this walkthrough.
Pick the media. Click the picker and select the specific post or reel, or leave it on All Posts to watch every post on the account. Posts already used by another flow of the same trigger type are locked out — two flows on one post would answer the same commenter twice.
Set keywords. Click Setup Keywords and add the words that should start the automation, e.g. link, send, guide. Matching is case-insensitive and matches anywhere in the comment, so link also catches "please send the link!". Leave the list empty to fire on every comment.
Set comment replies. Optionally add a few public replies, e.g. "Sent! Check your DMs 💌" and "On its way ✨". InfluDM picks one at random each time so the thread doesn't look robotic.
See Triggers & Keywords.
4. Write the opening message
Switch Opening Message on and write the DM that goes out immediately, plus the label for the button underneath it:
Message: Hey! Tap below and I'll send the guide straight over 👇
Button label: Send me the linkThis is required for comment and live triggers that have any response steps — it's the single private reply Instagram allows, and tapping it is what opens the messaging window for everything that follows.
See Opening Message.
5. Add your response steps
Click Add Response and build the sequence. You can add up to 10 steps of these types:
| Step | What it sends |
|---|---|
| Text message | A message, optionally with up to 3 link buttons. |
| Card message | An image with a title, subtitle and up to 3 link buttons. |
| Image message | Up to 10 images, sent one message each. |
| Ask to follow | Pauses the flow until Instagram confirms they follow you. |
| Lead form | Asks a saved form's questions and stores the answers. |
For a first flow, one Card message with your link button is plenty.
See Response Steps.
6. Activate and save
Flip the toggle at the top from Inactive to Active and press Create flow.
If something is missing — an empty text step, a card with no title, a lead step with no form — the builder lists the problems and refuses to activate. You can still save an invalid flow as an inactive draft.
7. Test it
Comment one of your keywords on the post, from a different Instagram account. Within a few seconds you should see:
- A public reply under your comment.
- A DM with your opening message and its button.
- After tapping the button, the rest of the flow.
Test from another account
Events authored by the connected account itself are ignored on purpose — otherwise a flow would answer its own comment reply forever. Always test from a second account.
Where to go next
- Lead Forms — collect emails and phone numbers inside the DM.
- Follow-ups — nudge the people who stalled halfway.
- Contacts and Leads — see who came through.
- Billing & Plans — account allowance, contact limits and upgrades.
- Troubleshooting — when the DM doesn't arrive.
